Low Energy Costs Are Important For a Strong America
It was just last summer when gas prices were at record high levels. Although prices have receded, keeping gas prices at an affordable level is more important as American families face a whole new set of challenges in this uncertain economy.
Why? Because we rely on oil and gas in our everyday lives, even more than you may realize. Not only do we need oil to power our cars, but petroleum products are used in fertilizers, medicine, plastics and even our phones and clothing.
Natural gas is also a key component in many everyday items such as plastics, paint, steel and fabrics. Like crude oil, natural gas is found all over the world. Natural gas is a clean gas that is highly efficient. Perhaps most important given the current economic challenges faced by Americans, a report by the Department of Commerce says that for every $1 million of revenue generated by gas utility companies, there is an increase in national economic output by $2.66 million, employee earnings by $450,000 and employment by 14 workers.
The bottom line is the less you pay at the pump, the more flexibility you have in your family budget for other things such as groceries, bills, child care or even a vacation. Affordable gas helps reduce shipping and travel costs and affects the price we pay for food and other items used daily. An economy fueled by low energy prices creates more jobs, grows and thrives.
Given the tough economic times we’re facing, now more than ever low energy costs are the building blocks for a prosperous recovery. In ways big and small, low energy costs are critical for a strong America and will enhance our quality of life. Follow these links to learn more about domestic energy production and renewable energy.
You can be heard and make a difference! Send a letter to your elected officials and tell them what low gas prices mean to you.
