Electric Vehicles and the Untold Secret: Are They Actually Worse For The Environment and More Dangerous Than Gas?
THE DANGERS OF LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES
Electric vehicles are basically a bomb on wheels, because of the lithium-ion batteries.
I am sure its not a popular statement, but a factual one nonetheless. Lithium-ion batteries, as confirmed by its own inventor, are seriously flawed and seriously dangerous. Lithium-ion battery fires occur due to a number of factors, including manufacturing defects, physical damage, overcharging or overheating, and exposure to high temperatures or fire. A lithium-ion battery is more dangerous that an open gas tank filled with gas. Not only can the smallest penetration cause them to explode, a minor overheat, or even outside temperatures being to high, the real danger comes once it catches fire. A lithium-ion battery fire releases large amounts of heat, smoke, and toxic gases, which can pose a serious risk to human health and the environment. One of the main reasons why lithium-ion fires are so dangerous is the rapid rate at which they can release energy. When a lithium-ion battery ignites, the heat generated can cause the electrolyte to break down, releasing large amounts of oxygen and hydrogen gas. This reaction can cause the battery to rupture or explode, releasing even more heat and toxic gases.
Accidents: driving style differs from engine to electricDrivers who switch from a classic car to an electric model often have too little awareness of how an electric car reacts. Before they realise it, they speed away and bang into something. Figures show that most accidents happen when accelerating, not when braking. In addition, the larger electric cars are extremely fast with narrower tires to conserve battery power. All this together leads to 50 percent more accidents than with regular cars. In addition, Low tire pressure creates more rolling resistance, which means the vehicle has to use more energy to move forward and reduce the driving range of an electric vehicle by as much as 10% or more. Over-inflated tires are also a problem in that too much air pressure will wear your tires down quicker and reduce the available grip in an emergency situation.
InsuranceThe cheapest popular EV to insure is the Hyundai Kona, which costs an average of $2,152 per year for a full-coverage policy. The cost of car insurance for an electric car is 25% more than its equivalent gas model. Electric car insurance is typically more expensive because EVs are more expensive to repair or replace.
Annual Registration EV CarsThe nonprofit Environment Texas calls the state's $200 toll a "punitive fee," pointing to research by Consumer Reports that suggests recouping lost gas taxes would only cost $71 per vehicle. If you fill up your 15-gallon tank 40 times a year, that works out to about $120 in excise taxes -- considerably less than the $200 lawmakers have assessed for electric vehicles.
Why are people giving up on electric cars - Sales dropping significantly
- high purchase price
- lack of charging stations were the most-cited reasons for not wanting an EV
- limited driving range
- time required to charge
- Respondents were also concerned about EV performance in extreme temperatures, cost of ownership, lack of repair shops, reliability, and power outages. May 1, 2023,
- Rain considerably hazardous
AMERICANS STRUGGLING TO MAKE CAR PAYMENTS IS HIGHEST SINCE GREAT RECESSIONThe analysis found that in Q4 2022, a typical mid-priced gas car driver paid about $11.29 to fuel their vehicle for 100 miles of driving. That was about 31 cents cheaper than what a mid-priced electric car driver paid charging their vehicle at home, and more than $3 less than what comparable EV drivers pay when they charge their vehicles at a fuel station.
Unless you were driving an expensive luxury electric vehicle, you were losing money charging your car versus paying for gas, experts said.
